ski and ride 1976

Photobucket

My goodness, it's Friday! Since I still haven't gotten around to trimming my bangs (but I have gotten around to 3x/wk at the gym, which is beyond awesome for me!), I wanted to go the seventies route today. It's kind of funny how the length of my bangs determines how I want to dress--when they're short and mod I also like to adorn myself accordingly.

(sweater: mom's; dress: h&m; tights: hue; belt: thrifted; boots: seychelles)

This sweater started it all. Sort of. It was one of the very first articles of clothing that I stole from my mother (the very first was the tweed blazer that goes with my favorite skirt) when I really started to appreciate vintage. She calls it her "ski sweater," and I can totally imagine myself plummeting down a mountain in 1976 with the wind in my hair and flared snowpants (no, seriously, she also had a pair of navy flared snowpants that I used to wear when I was in high school). I wish hitting the slopes wasn't so expensive these days, because I really miss snowboarding. Every winter Wednesday when I was in high school we would get a half day and the school would bus us over to Smuggler's Notch for some skiing and riding. And it was free! Those were some of the best days of my life. Now a single day on the mountain can cost upwards of $75, which I think is absolute thievery. Still, someday I'll get all my girlfriends and our menfolk together for a long weekend--slopes by day, hot tubs and hot cocoa (or champagne... always with the Andre) by night :)

  1. Holy cow, Caitlin, this has got to be one of my favorite outfits yet. I love how the patterns and colors of the sweater and skirt go together so perfectly!

I miss snowboarding, too! I haven't been in years, and I love being out on the mountain.

  2. I love the patterns here. The dress under this 70s style sweater is so perfect! Great look. I wish going to the mountian was cheaper too, I had to stop snowboarding when I got into University because I didn't have enough money for it anymore.
