life lately: happy halloween!

Photobucket

On Saturday, K and I went on our annual trip to the pumpkin patch and corn maze. Of all the places we have gotten pumpkins so far, Whitcomb's definitely wins for fun factor, although we did sort of give up on the corn maze this year (with ONE checkpoint left to find!). Before heading over there, we had a leisurely birthday brunch with my family at Leunig's (and lots of mimosas).

We picked up two pumpkins: a "dumb" pumpkin and his "smart" companion, which we will be carving tonight.  Time got away from us yesterday, what with laundry and paper-writing and all that jazz, so the kids might not get to see our jack-o-lanterns, but there is something festive about carving on Halloween.  We will also be watching scary movies and eating lots of candy!  Happy All Hallows Eve, everyone! :)

Pumpkins carved, candy eaten.  Success :)

in which i like cream in my coffee

Photobucket

Sooo... we didn't get a hurricane at my house.  Some people lost power (briefly) around the state, but we were totally untouched.  It hardly even rained!  Oh well, at least I got to leave work early because everyone was in a panic.

For some reason this sweater always makes me think of cappucinos, or mochas, or other kinds of coffee drinks that involve steamed milk.

Anyway, blah blah blah.  I don't have much to say today.  Any fun Halloween plans?  I just realized that K and I were supposed to carve our pumpkins tonight but now I'm not sure we'll have time :(  But we must!  Last year we waited until Halloween and we couldn't even put our pumpkin out because so many costumed kids were swarming our front stoop...

Oh, that trickster sunny-sun.  It was bright in my eyes today.

in which i like apples and bananas

Photobucket

Well, it's Monday again.  I thought I'd make it brighter with apples and polka dots (and banana-colored tights) :)

This weekend, I:

1. went to the spa with my mom and
a) ellipticalled
b) took a pilates class
c) went in the hot tub
d) went in the waterfall mineral pool
e) drank peppermint tea in the sun
f) had a yummy lunch (soup, salad, veggie wrap, tofu cheesecake)
g) went in the steam room with cukes on my eyes
h) went back in the hot tub
i) got a massage
j) started to feel sick and took a nap on a lounge chair for 2 hours
k) had a ginger ale at the bar with mom & dad
l) picked up a few groceries for dinner
m) threw up (twice)
n) went to bed early

That's right, folks.  I had an incredibly lovely, relaxing spa day at Stoweflake... and it made me sick.  Apparently my body cannot handle that much rest and relaxation (and, I suspect, that much hot tubbing).  Next time we're going to take it easy with the heat.  (And I drank way more than my fair share of cucumber water, so I have no idea...)

2. saw my friend Elizabeth's short film "Last Days at Doughboys" at the Vermont International Film Festival (hooray) and

a) drank champagne and ate fruit with the girls before the screening
b) had sweet potato fries at the pub afterward
and

3. went to my first Fed Up meeting (a group that advocates for women's reproductive rights, which my brother has been involved in for the past few months)

It was busy, busy, busy!  Next weekend is shaping up to be even crazier (costume dance party/karaoke, birthday brunch, birthday celebrations...) and even the weekend after that is already booked up!  Too bad weeks aren't as cool as weekends.  Work, work, work, work, work (that's one work for every day of the week), doing the dishes, grocery shopping, laundry... all of those unpleasant things tend to need doing during my weekday evenings.  Blech.  Where can I fit in my Anna Karenina-reading, Alias-watching, and book-editing??  Time, you are a fickle friend.

in which raindrops keep falling on my head

Photobucket

Hooray Friday!  Just a simple outfit for a rainy day--I almost didn't post today because the outfit is pretty boring and it was practically pouring when I took these photos.  But here I am!  Last time the girls and I got together for Art Club, my friend Elizabeth pushed some of her old clothes on us, and I scored this gem of a dress.  It is so soft and comfortable, I can tell it will be my go-to on days when I just can't stand constriction.

Photobucket Photobucket Picture019two-1 Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
(dress: forever 21; scarf/shoes: thrifted; trench: h&m; bag: urban outfitters)

I'm excited for the weekend, and not just for the usual reason (no work = hallelujah).  Tomorrow, mom and I are off to Stowe for a spa day!  And then Sunday I'm getting together with the girls to see my friend Elizabeth's film play at the VTIFF (the very same friend who gave me this dress, in fact)!  Plus, I've been super productive on my novel lately, powering through the revision, fleshing out some sections and slashing others--I think I'm officially over my attachment complex and am willing to let go for the sake of getting the edits over with.

Other than that, not much is happening.  It is almost my birthday (crazy!).  The best thing about that is it means I get to force K to hang out with me instead of studying.  And I get to make my parents take me out to dinner.  Ha!  Double whammy.  Doesn't it seem like this month/year/life is going so fast?
