mama i'm a sinking ship

There is really only one way that I want to wear this dress, and I wore it that way here. Sometimes it is difficult for me to force myself to switch it up for the sake of the blog, but I do it anyway. Is that wrong? Has blogging turned me into a remix junkie? Anyway, I do like the way I styled it today, it just feels a little less organic--a little more orphan Annie or something.

So first of all, did everyone watch The Bachelor finale last night? Initially I was shocked and dismayed that Brad chose Emily over Chantal, because she seemed as boring as a block of wood (with the exception of her tragic past). Then I watched After the Final Rose and I totally changed my mind. Emily was talking about how difficult it was to watch Brad and Chantal together because they appeared to be having so much fun and Emily seemed totally boring on her dates. Emily admitted that she probably would have chosen Chantal if she were him, based on what she saw on the show. Anyway, she seemed like a much more complex person in the "after show" than she did on the actual show and Brad is definitely mad about her, which is really all that matters. Also, Chantal already has a new boyfriend and I decided that she basically would "fall in love" with a brick if it gave her the time of day, so I think that Brad made the right decision.

WOW. I cannot believe I wrote an entire paragraph about such a ridiculous show. Moving on...

I have been feeling a serious need to shake things up lately. Like, completely overhaul my life. Months ago I mentioned that I actually really do want to spend a year traveling the world and as of right now I can't imagine any way that can possibly happen. It completely frustrates me. I've thought about getting certified to teach English abroad, and that would be great, but I really want to just travel. I want to see everything everywhere, and everyplace inbetween. Why are these things so impossible? I've also been thinking it would be nice to move back to Ireland for a while--not Dublin, somewhere a little quieter like Cork or Galway. I just feel completely and utterly strapped by my financial responsibilities and shackles are not an appropriate accessory for someone with my insatiable wanderlust. I do feel guilty for wanting and demanding more out of life at a time when so many people have experienced and are currently experiencing such unspeakable tragedy, but these horrifying events serve as a reminder that life really is so short and unpredictable and there is no excuse to waste the few precious moments that we have. The devastation in the past few years is absolutely mind-boggling, and I can't help but wonder if we have brought these terrible storms upon ourselves with our callous misuse of our beautiful, irreplaceable planet. Maybe the Mayans were right.

WOW. Depressing. Sorry, guys. Is that what the world is coming to? Do we need The Bachelor to cope with events like these?

  1. We need something to cope with it, I am too embarrassed to name some of the television I watch because I should be classier than Bravo tv. This is the cutest nautical look EVER.

  2. Oops, forgot to mention, love that you have your current reads on the sidebar. Have you seen shelftari? You can add your virtual bookshelf to your blog. I have been meaning to do it!

  3. I love the way you remixed this dress, I feel that way with blogging sometimes. Some dresses I find more difficult to remix than others, but it's fun when you figure it out!
I reallly want to spend a year travelling, so badly. It would be amazing, I have the travel bug for sure

  4. I like this look a lot! The other way you styled it is adorable too, but this one is great for this time of year.

I liked Chantal better, Emily doesn't seem like she really wants to be with him ... lame haha

  5. I do have a few dresses that seem like there is only one way I want to wear them, but this look is super cute! Ugg, I know, I feel the travel itch, but with a mortgage, and one that just went up $200 a month, soooo not gonna happen. It's my spring break and last year I went to Korea, so going NOWHERE is depressing me!

  6. Ah! You KNOW I identify with this post. So utterly. I've been working on overhauling for months now, but the problem is that what I really want to do (quit my job, move to some rural town and work on a farm - seriously) is COMPLETELY impossible in my current situation. Gah!

Also, I do totally adore this dress! I think both stylings are perfect. The other one has a bit more of a French vibe, whereas this one reminds me of a sailor. In a totally rad way. :)

  8. Sometimes I think remixing his great and sometimes I think it's a disease... but since I don't do outfit posts every day I feel fine with wearing the same outfit three days in a row not for the blog.

Nice to know I'm not the only one depressing my readers this week. But seriously, with all my readings... there is nothing good lined up, at least for the developing world. Sucks.

I kind of want to get a job and have some stability for once. Actually that's a lie: I want to work freelance and travel the globe forevermore (but spend lots of time with my family too, who I miss to bits). But I feel like if I don't get a job/career at some point I'll basically be like "the girlfriend," and then be unemployable and frustrated or left teaching stupid English if things don't pan out in the future.

Wow, neurosis central around here today. Sorry!

  9. I adore your outfit, I love dressing like a 5 year old from time to time :)

I always get frustrated about having only one life to live, I'd love to have several lives in different cultures and different countries, experiencing as much as possible, but life always gets in the way. Now that's irony for ya.

  10. I have a very one-track mind when it comes to wearing certain things. Remixing is fun and good for creativity, but I really cannot wrap my head around not wearing the exact same outfit more than once. That said, I do like both variations of this outfit very much.

The state of the world today is really something to ponder, isn't it? I'm not sure what to make of it between all the natural disasters and apocalypse fever. Perhaps making more conscious choices, bettering ourselves (and our environs) through responsible change, and treating each day like a gift are the best ways to cope.

  11. Love this outfit!! Super fun.

maybe the bachelor is actually indirectly causing events like these? I'm sure Jersey Shore has played a part...

But seriously, I can't quite deal with this devastation- it just seems overwhelming...

  12. You look so adorable. Those tights are great with the shoes, and I love your hair, I wish I could do that, but I'm hairtarded.

I want to travel as well, and I have some trips planned this summer after college graduation, but some of my plans will have to be tweaked because the world is changing so quickly. You're right, things are just really bad, but how would we know if they were worse or better than thousands of years ago? Blaming the media seems to work.

But in happier thoughts.. Love your blog :)

  15. BACK to Ireland?!! As in you lived there?!! Lucky, lucky girl! Ireland is my dream to undream all dreams (?)! I know how no-resources-to-travel-blues can be. I have always wanted nothing more than to travel... and I've never been outside of the U.S. It's a cause of much depression for me:( I love your hair though! And your tights and shoes!
