On our way up the coast to San Francisco, we stopped in San Jose for a night at the Dolce Hayes Mansion. I'd earned a free night through Hotels.com, so we applied the balance and made our two nights at the mansion very reasonably priced. It was beautiful and relaxing. There was an Indian wedding setting up when we arrived, and I don't think either of us have so seriously considered crashing a wedding before. The food looked SO AMAZING, and everything was so colorful and fun. Instead we just had a cocktail in the little outdoor lounge and retired to our room to enjoy the fluffy white robes and some chocolate cake. I spent the entire next day laying down at the pool, reading. It was a much needed and much appreciated opportunity for some R&R. The next morning we had brunch at Bill's Cafe before hitting the road, stopping in Santa Cruz to wander the boardwalk and have some tacos (mine were good, K's were meh) at a pricey spot on the pier.
Santa Cruz! I went to college there. Looks like you hit a good day, too--the weather can be kind of erratic. I hope you enjoyed yourselves!
