K and I were only in San Antonio for one day, but we packed in everything we wanted to do and see and it ended up being one of our surprise favorite stops!  We got to town relatively early after crashing in Houston to wait out a giant thunder-and-lightning storm the night before and got right to it.  First up, the San Antonio Missions!  When most people think of San Antonio they remember the Alamo, but there are four other old Spanish Missions south of the city (I can't link to the NPS site because of the government shutdown... ugh) that are just as, if not even more, amazing (in part because they're pretty quiet): Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan Capistrano, and Espada (shown in order above).  San Jose was probably our favorite because it was the biggest and most awe-inspiring, with beautiful grounds and elaborate stone work.

We did so much in that one day I'll have to break San Antonio into two posts!  Up next: The Alamo and our evening on the riverfront :)
