saturday style icon: mia farrow

Today's subject: the iconic Mia Farrow (whose name appears in the media basically any time a young starlet crops her hair into a pixie--most recently, Carey Mulligan). I first saw Ms. Farrow onscreen when my introductory screenwriting class watched Rosemary's Baby, then saw all of the films she made with Woody Allen (because he's my favorite, though undoubtedly he is not her favorite anymore...), and most recently watched her with Dustin Hoffman in John and Mary. Prepare yourself for a plethora of peter pan collars and big unblinking eyes:

(Mia, the original Angelina Jolie, with her brood of adopted darlings--one of whom would go on to MARRY her then-husband, Woody Allen)

I know it's not technically her style, but I couldn't resist including a few looks from her portrayal of Daisy in The Great Gatsby (alongside Robert Redford--it's a great adaptation!). And, because we all love love, a photo of Ms. Farrow dancing with Ol' Blue Eyes on their wedding day (it was a short-lived love--he apparently served her with divorce papers when she refused to leave the production of Rosemary's Baby to work on his film The Detective). They look so happy here!

  3. No one is ever likely to looks quite so good with that haircut. I feel the need to go and purchase a mini dress right away.

  4. There's no doubt that she amazingly rocked the short hair and big collars. And I like the way she could do voluminous. Especially that swirly white tent dress. Makes me want to chop off all my hair (I think Emma Watson's the newest member of that club) ; )

  5. Oh what crazy timing for you to put these up! Last week my friend was going on and on about how my hair cut reminded her or rosemary's baby! This really makes me want to go buy a dress similar to the 2nd picture!

  6. I'm so glad that you did a feature on Mia Farrow. She is one of my biggest sources of inspiration when it comes to fashion! I love all of the mini dresses and cute collars. And her make-up always looks amazing!

  7. this was really cool style inspiration, thanks for doing this! just so you know though, the picture of the woman in the striped dress with the full skirt and matching belt, where she's wearing sunglasses... that's not mia farrow. it's actually jean seberg who also has a totally envy-worthy pixie cut. it's actually a film still from breathless i think...

  8. Love your blog! But the pic of "Mia" in the striped dress with shades on is actually Jean Seberg as Patricia in Breathless (a bout de souffle) she was rocking the pixie way before Mia and Vidal, and is often cited as the original gamine.
