in which you promised me a rose garden

Photobucket

This coat was the only thing I bought (miraculously) while Steph was visiting.  As soon as I saw it on the rack at Second Time Around, I knew I had to have it for Easter week. (There was also a really great velvety mustard blazer that I would have bought if it had been a size smaller... I'm willing to work with sizes at Goodwill, but not for $40.)  Anyway, I'm pretty much in love with this coat, so I'm satisfied.

(My favorite part is the back.)

I finally finished my dress last night!  I need to wait for some more summery weather to wear it--it's too bright and sunshine-y for spring (and not even remotely warm), but I like seeing it hanging happily in my closet, for now.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the week (after laundry night is over, that is).  Even though I was reminded that K has to work on Friday (and Saturday) night, I have Art Club tomorrow, a potential girls' night on Saturday, and then Easter at Log Town on Sunday--yay!  Hopefully somewhere in there I will have time to start my next dress and do a little bit of writing.  I'm still trying to figure out the best way to print copies of the book for tomorrow night... such a procrastinator!

Also, is Mercury still in retrograde?  It seems to be messing with a lot of my friends lives, so if it could please get back on track that would be great, thanks.

in which i wear a short skirt and long jacket

Photobucket

For some reason I always feel the need to wear this blazer with a supershort skirt--probably to counterbalance the length of the blazer itself. This is another coat that I stole from my mother. Blazers were where it all began for me. I very clearly remember going home for school break (Thanksgiving? Christmas?) one year and digging through the cedar chest, looking for something classy to wear (since blazers were everywhere that year). This was my very first foray into vintage, and I rarely took it off between sophomore and senior year. It was part of a set with this skirt (which came much later in my life, right around blog-time). This blazer was stolen around that same time, and is equally awesome (though perhaps not quite as versatile).

I'd like to go for a walk on a country road somewhere, so I can really take a moment to appreciate the foliage. I've been walking during my lunch break lately, just for a little change of scenery/some semblance of exercise, but it's not the same--I always feel rushed. This weekend is shaping up to be pretty busy, but the weather is supposed to be fine (perfect for apple picking!). I will probably be going out to a party at my parent's house on Saturday, so maybe I'll fit a woodland stroll in there somewhere.

Anyway... this day. Hope you're having a good one!

in which i rose incarnate in the ghostly clothes of jazz

Photobucket

I feel very beat in this outfit, like I should be sitting in a cafe somewhere (sure wish I was) sipping black coffee and smoking slender hand-rolled cigarettes. Except I like mine with milk and sugar and I don't smoke. But besides that...

I know I wore this coat rather recently, and the shoes only yesterday, but the outfit was entirely different both times, so I don't feel like I'm getting repetitive :) This coat is just so perfect against the fallen leaves... I wish I had gotten a better shot of the socks--they actually have a cool herringbone print, but they kind of just look striped here.

It's another grey day, threatening rain. I had apple cider and cider donuts for lunch (it's that time of year--and I can't refuse free food at the office). I need to deposit $1.23 in my bank account so that I don't overdraw if our landlord decides to deposit the rent check before Thursday. Last night I wrote 500 words. Not 5000, but more realistic :) I've been enjoying wearing warm socks around the house, and steam in the kitchen, and cuddling on the couch with my down blanket and hot cocoa.

As for being beat, it's all about the glasses:

Apologies for the grainy photos, my camera clearly can't function in the pouring rain. Boo. Dark and dreary days like this make me want to go to the gym for some reason. Last night I was ridiculously productive--I wrote for several hours and now am hovering right around 30,000 words. The novel is coming along nicely!

I originally bought this fabulous fall dress with the intention to immediately hem it into a mini, mostly because I feel awkward traipsing around the office in floor-length garments. But then I decided that I didn't care. I definitely plan to hem it sometime soon because I think it could easily become one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe with a higher hem, but right now I'm going to enjoy it as it is (and apparently hide it underneath a trenchcoat). I have been frustrated with this trench every since I broke the belt buckle off in my car door, but I think an actual belt is a good solution! I actually really like the way this looks.

Everybody excited about NYFW? Wish I could go--maybe someday!

I LOVE this outfit. I feel so bohemian with all of my prints and gold jewelry. This coat is one of my absolute favorites--I can't believe I was ever on the fence about buying it. I think it makes any outfit infinitely more interesting. This is almost exactly what I wore to a dinner party with friends last weekend--I rarely repeat outfits on this blog, but that's why I don't post on the weekends! Anyway, I liked the combination so much that I wore it again yesterday. I had originally moved all of my pretty pastels to the front of the closet for this week, but it ended up being a lot colder and greyer than I was expecting so I had to improvise. Hopefully I'll be able to pull them out next week!

But enough about my outfit. Lyric's production of Chicago last night (opening night!) was so much fun! K and I got all dolled up (any excuse is good enough for me!), and I kept grabbing his arm and grinning like a lunatic when the opening bars of my favorite songs would start up. I'm such a musical theatre nerd. It's probably a good thing that I don't live anywhere near Broadway--my bank account would seriously suffer. Still, I couldn't help but think that I could have played Velma as well or better than the woman who had the part (although her 14-year involvement in the company probably would have given her quite the advantage even if I had actually decided to audition). It was definitely the most professional non-professional theatre production I've ever seen in Vermont, ever. I had such a great time.

And, just for kicks, here's how I've worn some of these items in the past:

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
