in which i go long with prints

Photobucket

I used to buy long skirts for the express purpose of hemming them into minis, but lately I've been loving the longer lengths. I get fewer funny looks when I wear them now (people have come to expect sartorial eccentricity from me, I suppose), and they make me feel a bit more mature. I feel almost indecent in my super-short skirts these days... my, how things change!

In other totally random news, I started taking a daily multivitamin for the first time yesterday (being a pasta-loving vegetarian means I don't always get as many vitamins as I need, and although I've been a longtime champion of the balanced diet and ingesting nutrients the old-fashioned way, it doesn't always happen for me), and man is that stuff effective! It advertised a boost to my metabolism, but the past couple of days I've taken it without eating first and felt incredibly nauseous. This morning I viciously attacked a nectarine with my teeth in an attempt to combat the swell of sickness. Not sure how I feel about that. It's just a regular old one-a-day for women, but I'll definitely be following the instruction to take "with food" from now on.

Anyway, back to the outfit: I thrifted both this lovely cashmere sweater and this pretty printed midi skirt at Goodwill last week--I have been scoring big time there lately, and it's created a monster in me. I have a major thrifting itch that never goes away! I want to shop all the time! I did buy this skirt with the intention to shorten it, but again, wanted to give it a spin before I cut it up. What do you think? Should I leave it long? I kind of like it, it just feels less versatile this way.

Another week is flying by...

in which plaid meets plaid

Photobucket

This is why autumn is awesome. Because layers plaids is fun. Also, this blazer is amazing and I wish I could wear it every day (it's a-blaaaaaazing). Truth? This buffalo plaid men's shirt=my pajamas. I wear it to sleep, and then sometimes I just keep wearing it. Now you know all my secrets.

Anyone else having problems with Photobucket today? It is being a menace, and I can't tell if it is the site or my computer... either way, boo hiss.

I did a little bit of math and determined that if I want to meet my self-set deadline for finishing the first draft of my novel (by the end of the year), I have to write ~4500 words/week. That kind of stresses me out, but I have written ~2000 so far this week, so maybe it won't be completely impossible. Time to buckle down! What projects are you all working on? I'd love to hear about some of your nonblog creative endeavors!

in which it's another rainy day

Photobucket

Another rainy day calls for another classic look. I won't lie, after I put this on I thought to myself, did I wear this exact outfit once before? Turns out the answer is Yeah, pretty much. I guess for some reason I feel the need to wear stripes with this skirt, and the dainty little shoes cleverly counterbalance what would otherwise be a whole lot of skirt (in my opinion).

I sometimes flounder when dressing myself because there are outfits I have in mind that I really want to wear but I either want to save them for the weekend (when I might be doing something other than sitting in a cubicle) or I want to wait a certain amount of time before repeating the same item of clothing (usually ~2 weeks). If it weren't for the blog I'd be wearing these things willy-nilly, and while I do appreciate that the blog pushes me to be more creative/mix it up, sometimes I just want to wear that mustard dress, even if I wore a similar mustard dress the day before.

Anyway, last night I went to have dinner and hang out with a gal pal and we chatted over plates of pasta and rich malbec and it was lovely. Being in such a long-term relationship, I sometimes forget how awesome and important my special girlfriends are to me, so I'm really trying to make more of an effort to see them on a regular basis. It's always so great when I do. Go hug a girlfriend, everyone! :)

in which geniuses choose green

Photobucket

Oh, weekend, where did you go? Today's outfit was built around my fabulous new shoes... it may be sort of hard to tell, but the ribbon laces are actually an olive color, so I wanted to play them up with more green. (Speaking of olives, I absolutely hate the salty little creeps... I think they are pretty much the most disgusting thing on the planet, and a dirty martini makes my stomach crawl. I do, however, passionately love olive oil. I'm weird.) Also, I will never tire of this jumper... it is fantastic.

I had a pretty good weekend, although lately it seems that all I really want to do is curl up and sleep (must be the cold weather). Saturday K and I went to the Tunbridge Fair, which was lovely and seasonal but it was hard to kill much time there... when I was a teenager I would go with my friends and literally spent HOURS making myself scream on the various thrill rides, but K isn't a ride guy, so that was out of the question (besides which I do feel a little bit too old to be hollering my head off while spinning madly in circles--though it wouldn't stop me if somebody else was game [my friend Catherine and I hit the rollercoaster in our Las Vegas hotel twice in a row before going out on the town...]). I did force him to go on the ferris wheel, much to his chagrin :) Mostly we just ate lots of fair food and wandered through the exhibits, petting cows and checking out old farm equipment. It was nice to finally spend some quality time with K, since he usually has his nose in a book.

I really need a haircut--I can always tell when I've gone too long because my hair starts to look all crazy and puffy in the back. Last year at this time I got a pretty significant trim and I'm actually pretty amazed at how fast it grew. I'm sort of tempted to cut it off again in the classic French New Wave-Anna Karina style, but at the same time I really like having it long. I've never been one of those girls who changes her hair regularly. I've never even dyed it--not even temporarily--in my life, and once I find a haircut I like I tend to stick to it for years. I almost had a heart attack when I first had my fringe cut, and now I can't imagine myself without it (and who knows when I'll get up the gumption to grow it out).

Wow, random post or what? :) Welcome to the new week!
