(song lyric sunday)

Everybody Knows

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

style icon saturday: marianne faithfull

Marianne Faithfull is the quintessential rock-and-roll groupie/girlfriend. To me, she is the real life Penny Lane, with perhaps a more pronounced drug problem. She has certainly led a wild life--as a singer/songwriter in the sixties, she was especially known for her four-year relationship with Mick Jagger. (Of this relationship, she has said "My first move was to get a Rolling Stone as a boyfriend. I slept with three and decided the lead singer was the best bet.") When the affair ended in 1970, she dropped from the top of the Swinging London scene to the absolute bottom. She lived on the streets of Soho for two years, suffering from heroin addiction, and never really recovered. It was an absolute waste, but that's rock and roll, I suppose. Still, she is one of the most stylish ladies I've ever seen:

Rebellion is the only thing that keeps you alive!
(Marianne Faithfull)

In 1994, Marianne published an autobiography, Faithfull, which I am actually really eager to read. It's always fascinating to look inside the lives of rock stars from that era.

in pursuit of passion

Feeling rather anxious lately for many reasons. I just want to go go go all the time but I can't prioritize and end up wallowing in sloth. Still pretty enthused about the upcoming long weekend...

(blouse: Plato's Closet; slipdress: UO; skirt: vintage; shoes: Seychelles; glasses: F21; necklace: DIY)

I feel like my post-graduate generation has been completely crippled by an excess of opportunity. We're all too well-rounded, too ambitious, too accustomed to having everything our little hearts desire. We're never satisfied with what we're doing because there are so many other things we want to be doing at the same time, and so many different lives that we know we could lead if we were passionate enough, but because we're jack-and-jane's-of-all-trades our passion is spread too thin and we can't point ourselves in any one direction. We want to live everywhere, be everyone, do everything... and then we end up doing nothing at all. Most of us find that our entire collegiate experience was effectually "wasted" (I don't believe in waste), and that we're thousands of dollars in debt, maybe a little wiser, and a whole lot more cynical. I wouldn't count myself among the cynical. I'm still way too much of an optimist (key words: too much). I've spent my life opening myself up to everything the world has to offer, and now I need to narrow my vision slightly. I don't want to close anything out, I just need to focus.

FOCUS.

FOCUS.

clash of the patterns

I love this outfit. I think that the pattern of the coat and dress clash so fantastically, they almost match. And yellow tights always make my day a little brighter :)

(dress/belt: Bargain Boutique; jacket: TJMaxx; tights: HUE; shoes: Seychelles; lip color: MAC "Dare You")

Are any of my fellow Americans totally excited for Thanksgiving? I sure am. It's so close I can practically smell it (oh wait, I think that's my co-worker's lunch...). I'm excited to spend a long, drowsy day in front of the fire with my fabulous family, pigging out on port wine cheese and regular old wine and playing Bananagrams until dinnertime... and then, swoon! Oh, the food. Anyway, I'm obviously hungry... and I don't have anything terribly exciting to say, because that's what happens to me on Tuesday! It's like my Blogger Bermuda Triangle.
