And thus we conclude Easter Week on the blog.

There were some eggs hidden around my office this morning, so I've spent the day munching through chocolates like an (Easter) bunny. It's no secret that chocolate is my favorite thing about this holiday (I've also been known to enjoy a jellybean or two--or two hundred), but I am looking forward to spending a weekend down in Connecticut with the family. Tomorrow will be dedicated to manual labor (hauling brush and such from our recently-demolished camp on the Pond), which I'm actually looking forward to! I really do enjoy working once and a while, especially since I spend most of every week sitting on my bum in front of a flickering computer screen (ew). (I really do want to be a farmer. Sometimes.) Then of course, the traditional Sunday dinner in Portland (and the potential for lawn games) before the long car ride north. I only wish K could come :( He'll be spending the weekend shut up in his office studying for finals, which is a big bummer.

Anyway, I love this hat. It's not really a bonnet, but it's just as awesome. You know what else is awesome? You guys. Happy Easter!

in which i lament my life

Photobucket

So... it snowed this morning, which we are not going to talk about. Also, I'm getting kind of sick of pastels, which means that spending the week in my Easter finery got boring right around... yesterday. Annnnnnnnnnnd I'm really depressed because I was going to buy myself about four pairs of shoes and I was super excited and then a few annoyances dashed my happy hopes (namely, the gym informed me that I need to give thirty days notice to quit and therefore would be charged the hefty sum that I hadn't intended to pay this month, and I have to spend $350 on summer tires because my life sucks). So now I have to live through the next two weeks without eating, wearing the same shoes I always wear and hoping that the pretty pairs I've been eyeing aren't sold out from under me.

So, boo. Whining out of the way. In happier news, I'm going out to dinner with some girlfriends tonight. So that will be fun. Even if I'm wearing the same boring shoes I always wear.

frills for thrills

Photobucket

It was actually rather cozy to be awakenened early this morning by rumbling thunder. Not so cozy: the fact that I then had to get up and go outside. Days like these were made for curling up on the couch with a fat book and a steaming cup of tea--not for taking outfit photos. I had originally planned to get up early and tease my hair, but the rain would have ruined it immediately anyway, hence the hat.

When I wore this dress last Easter I wasn't very happy with the styling, and I do like it a lot better this time around but it's still doesn't thrill me. I don't know, it's a lot harder to style than I thought it would be, maybe because it's so frilly. I do love the combination of the grey socks with these sandals, so they will definitely have to make an appearance together again soon.

Last night was spent baking lasagne with mushrooms, onions and spinach and eating it while drinking wine and flipping through last month's issue of Vogue (I'm so behind... I got the May issue this week and now I need to play catch-up!). It was completely self-indulgent and absolutely divine. Tonight will most likely be more of the same... Happy hump day!

caitlin in wonderland

Photobucket

It's Easter Week, so you can expect to see me in all my Sunday finery (since, if this upcoming Easter is anything like the last, it will be spent getting rather intoxicated and digging my heels into the grass while playing cutthroat lawn games--not exactly glamorous). I adore this dress but it does feel an awful lot like costumery, so it makes its way out of the closet maybe once a year. Last time I wore it was in November of 2009, with a distinctly gothic spin. This time around, I feel as if I am channeling Alice in Wonderland.

Speaking of Alice in Wonderland, I recently watched Alice, Woody Allen's loosely-based modern interpretation of the classic, and loved it. In my opinion, you can't get much better than Woody Allen and Mia Farrow, who can both basically do no wrong in my mind (besides the whole he-left-her-for-her-adopted-daughter scenario, which is just gross). Sometimes I choose to overlook people's personal failings if I have enough of an appreciation for their art--is that bad? K absolutely hates Woody Allen. I guess you're either on one side or the other. Mia, on the other hand, is just darling.

Happy Easter/Passover week, everyone!

i've got moves you've never seen

TRUE STORY: I love dance parties. In fact, I rather wish that my regular life was a non-stop dance party, all the time.

I always think of dance parties when I wear this dress because I wore it to my first real hipster dance party in college and there were plenty of incriminating photos of me mid-dance move so that's how I will always imagine myself in it. I wore it a lot back then, though oddly enough I don't think it has ever made an appearance on my blog! It was also my very first thrift/(vintage?) purchase. The tag says J Crew and I assume it's probably only from the nineties or something, but it has a definite sixties vibe (in my opinion), especially with bouffant hair and winged black eyeliner.

Also, this nail polish is a big fail. I grabbed it at the drug store because it was a pale pastel yellow in the bottle, but it actually looks much more like lemon meringue than banana cream. Oh well, it was like $1.50. I kind of like it anyway--after all, yellow is my favorite color!
