I'm really rather ashamed of myself for keeping my camera at such a distance all week at Cape Cod. This is the only real beach shot that I got... anyway, the trip began on Saturday morning, when K and I took a detour into Boston on our way through MA. We waited in line for half an hour and paid a rather exorbitant sum to gain entrance to the Boston Aquarium, where we were promptly crushed in a mob of Bostonians and tourists alike. The whole thing was such a madhouse that we missed more exhibits than we would have liked just because we couldn't handle waiting in what amounted to a queue just to see a certain sort of fish. Anyway, I did take a few photos:
Jellies are one of my very favorite aquarium creatures (I think I generally prefer aqua exhibits at zoos, where you get to see the likes of manatees and polar bears in addition to jellies and penguins). I think the blue water tanks are so incredibly gorgeous, but these little guys looked a little worse for wear :/
The seahorses were pretty fabulous... especially the one that looked like it was covered in leaves (not shown)!
Penguins are always awesome, and I loved this fat frog.
After a brief breakfast and a cup of coffee each morning, we would all head down to the beach to read and swim and stroll in the sand.
Our cottage had some seriously lovely landscaping, reminiscent of an English country garden, and a table outdoors for those family dinners we did eat at home (once we got takeout from Arnold's--an Eastham institution--and once my dad grilled up hamburgers and hotdogs [or tofu dogs ;)]) Mostly it was used at lunchtime, when we lazed around eating chips and guac or cheese and crackers while drinking strawberry dacquiris or wine spritzers.
The dining room was only used for game nights (and the playing of music). Trivial Pursuit and Bananagrams reigned supreme!
During the day the boys got up to their usual shenanigans (my Bananagrams tower was highest!), and at night we usually went out to dinner before engaging in the following: miniature golf, Irish jam session at O'Shea's (we make an annual appearance), a movie on our one less-than-stellar evening, and ice cream and window shopping in Provincetown.
It was a lovely vacation, as always, with the best family a girl could ask for!
Au Revoir, Eastham. I'm already counting the days until I can sink my toes into your sandy beaches this time next year...
